I wish I had more to say about visiting this concentration camp but I am truly speechless – which, for those who know me ,understand what a true miracle that is. It wasn’t so much eerie as surreal. I encourage you to look up Sachsenhausen. In it’s “prime”, a loose term at best, it held [...] I just finished doing 2 private lessons of ballet with 2 of the best teachers in the world and watching Swan Lake the ballet. PROFFESSINAL! My favorite part was when I learned part of the dance of Swan Lake in my class with Miss Victoria. Miss Louisa in Moscow was very nice and I hug [...] Standing at Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin. Hey guys sorry for not blogging for a while but here I am. Russia was so cool and I loved everything. Stalin’s bunker was so cool. It was really pretty actually. The “Candy Palace” was really cool. After that I started collecting military hats and, I’m getting one from [...] We got to see the Berlin wall. It was so old. There was graffiti all over it. I was disappointed about the Berlin wall going up because no one deserved to be on the “bad” side and no one deserved being killed for trying to go to the free side. The people who put it [...] Its different then what I expected. Germany defiantly surprised me with how pretty it is. From our point of view (Americans) we think of Germany and then almost right away I think of Hitler and The Nazis, not nice and pretty and friendly! Germany is a really nice place and, I learned that all the [...] "Stolpersteine" Berlin is an odd city – new but old. Proud of its future but shameful of its past. This makes for an interesting mixture of contemporary, state-of-the-art structures fronted by signage of the Nazi buildings that used to usurp the same space – ghosts hammered down into the past by new foundations. There is [...] Unfortunately, I never got to see the named Chamber of Secrets It was closed when Mr. P and I walked over there at 9.30, and we had no time before our 2.30 departure. Oh well. We took a rather laborious flight to Berlin, where we arrived at our hotel to the good news/bad [...] I have to look back on Russia with great admiration and affection. It was not at all what I expected. Years of Cold War perspective from my youth had lead me expect hard, abrupt people who would prefer us have never come to visit. How gloriously wrong I was. We, as a family, fell in love [...] It’s only been just about a week, and it feels like a month. It better not be like that for the whole year.
